A Study on the Effect of Cognitive-behavior Music Therapy on Improving Social Phobia of Women¡¯s University Students

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of cognitive-behavior music therapy on social phobia of women¡¯s university students. 16 subjects with social phobia were selected in S women¡¯s university in Seoul, and randomized to experimental group and control group. The experimental group participated in music therapy program for 1 hour 30 minute per session, twice a week for 5weeks, 10 sessions in total. In order to measure the effects of cognitive-behavior music therapy program on social phobia, experimental group and control group completed Social Avoidance and Distress Scale(SADS) and Brief-Fear of Negative Evaluation (B-FNE), at pre-treatment, post-treatment. And in order to measure another symptom related to social phobia, both groups completed Beck Depressed Inventory(BDI), too. The statistics analysis for this study was used Mann-Whitney U test to compare results found in experimental group with those of control group. And this study used Wilcoxon Matched Pair test to show trend of effects by treatment. Study result show that experimental group that had cognitive -behavior music therapy has significant difference in SADS, B-FNE, BDI, statistically compared to control group.
